Private developers are investing millions into downtown Battle Creek, transforming the city from a tumbleweed Rust Belt town into a happenin' place for people to live, work, and hang. ``Young individuals want an environment that gives them an urban experience to live, work and walk downtown,'' said George Erickcek, an economist with the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research in Kalamazoo.
